Family Camp Week 2 Recap
Another week of CEL Family Camp has come and gone. We had an amazing five days with our Week 2 families; we are missing them already!
We welcomed five families to camp on Wednesday afternoon, everyone got settled into their cabins and then began to explore all that Family Camp had to offer! The Gorin and Doria families kicked off the week with a game of torpedo run and a few rounds of a “floor is lava” obstacle course, which became a favorite activity for many of our Week 2 families. Some light rain moved our evening program of the Mostest and Flashlight Sing into the Grove Pavilion. After some fierce competition (to life!), the staff/Stein team took home the win.
Thursday’s forecast looked grim, but our Week 2 Families were ready for anything! The Marbits, Volks, Dorias, and Gorins made the trek up Hackensack on Thursday morning. Through mud and bugs, these families persevered to the summit and were rewarded with a picturesque view of Warrensburg. The weather held out, and the Family Camp Scavenger Hunt went forward as planned. The Rudinski family were this week’s champions, “charging” past the competition with a single point. Evening lineup was a monumental one, with every camper receiving a fuzzy! We finished off the night with a kids’ screening of Cheaper by the Dozen and a parents’ trivia night. The Rudinskis came in first yet again, showing off their impressive history knowledge.
After morning lineup on Friday, all five of our Family Camp families took a walk down to the Hudson River with Cat. The group skipped rocks, took in a beautiful view of Gore Mountain, visited the Warrensburg fish hatchery and enjoyed some great conversations. Friday was a hot day, and everyone was thrilled to cool off in the pool in the afternoon. Bri Bri’s water aerobics class was a big hit! All of the adults had a chance to show off their moves, and they did not disappoint. Friday’s evening activity was a CEL favorite: Friday Night Live! Our five Week 2 families put on quite the show, including a dance from Hailey Doria and Molly Gorin, an Amanda Volk song and ukulele performance, a “dramedy” from the Rudinskis, a dance by Violet Stein, an original piano piece by Tilden Marbit, a staff dance, and a CEL edition of Take Me Home, Country Roads by Debbie and Ethan Volk. We finished off the evening by singing our camp songs with accompaniment by Tilden Marbit. It was truly a night to remember!
On Saturday morning, several of our Week 2 families enjoyed yoga with Leona! It was a perfect, relaxing way to start off the last full day of Family Camp. Our families were out and about all day, swimming in the pool, working on their swings at golf, boating in the lake, playing tennis, and of course, playing games at gymnastics. The afternoon tie dye session was a blast! With some help from our visiting tie dye expert, Robin Doria, our families created some awesome shirts. Saturday’s evening program was a campfire. All of our families loved singing some of our favorite campfire songs and making s’mores!
It was hard to say goodbye to our Week 2 families on Sunday Morning. We are so grateful that we had the opportunity to share camp with all of you this week!
