Hello Echo Lakers! In this installment of OBB, we are going to tell you how living at camp year-round relates to the themes of things old and new at camp. Take a look at this picture! It’s been the coldest February on record here in CELland, and we have had tons of snow –there are over two feet on the ground! Yesterday we were standing right at the intersection of Iroquois Lane and Mohawk Avenue in the Senior Village, looking at the sign atop that big pile of snow. For us, every place we walk by in camp is an “intersection” of sorts. We see the past and future everywhere we go. Where Iroquois and Mohawk meet we see carnivals past, the bunks we lived in for so many years, the staff who stopped by to pet our dogs, our good friends Clive and Jill Hickson across the road, Sara Gold on her porch next door – -for us just about every spot brings a memory and a smile. When we are standing in the snow at the flagpole we can see Morry giving out fuzzies, with our own kids in their pre-camper days right by his side, clutching the fuzzy bag; there are so many memories from so many special spots that make just walking around camp in the offseason a grand tour of smiling! But we see the future too, sometimes long before you do. Last year we saw the Field House rise up from a clearing in the trees and we could practically see you dancing, getting fitter, shooting baskets and playing futsal day after summer day! This year, we are eager for you to….well, that will just have to be a surprise, so get ready! So as winter turns to spring, your big backyard becomes a place of even greater anticipation as we eagerly await the first flowers, trees filled with green leaves, warm breezes, the arrival of the staff, the hectic preparation for summer 2015, and finally –the most important ingredient-you!
