Providence David

Hey Echo Lakers!  I’m Providence, and I’ll be running the music program this summer.  If you are returning to Echo Lake, I am excited to re-connect with you.  If this is your first time at camp, you are in for an amazing summer!

I am a songwriter and producer.  I also teach a music production class in Manhattan. I began working in music in 2008.  I worked at Jive Records for two years, followed by a brief stint at Atlantic Records in L.A.  I love creating and helping others to develop their creativity.

I’m looking forward to my fifth summer at Echo Lake.  Each summer, we run a variety of music classes in addition to recording a CD of original songs written and performed by campers.  Last year, there was a tremendous amount of talent, and I expect this summer to be off the charts!

One of my main goals this summer is to make the “Music Shack” a place where Echo Lakers can come and be inspired to develop their creativity, and produce results that both they and the community are proud of.

How many summers have you spent at Camp Echo Lake, and what brought you here in the first place?

This will be my fifth summer. I was brought to camp by Pete Kalvert (an ex-camper who now heads the Camp Echo Lake music program).

What do you do during the rest of the year?

I create all year long.  It never stops.  For me, “creating” is writing and producing music. I also teach a music production and songwriting class in Manhattan three days a week.

What is your experience/background with music?

I have worked in the music industry (professionally) since 2008.  I worked at Sony Music Entertainment from 2008-2010, followed by a brief stint at Atlantic Records.  I have also been a freelance producer and songwriter for numerous independent projects.

How do you tailor your lessons to develop campers with varying skills?

Group lessons always take into account (and build off of) campers’ strengths.  In addition, different skill levels are addressed by breaking down music activities and ideas to their most basic components, and then building them up to reach more complex outcomes.

What are your goals for the campers for the summer of 2015?

I want the campers to be inspired to develop their creativity, feel amazing while doing it, and produce results that both they and the Echo Lake community are proud of.
