Camp Echo Lake – Senior Village Boys: Week 2 Recap
The boys had their second Challenge Night of the summer this past week. Half of the boys played basketball, while the other half played futsal.
Challenge Night is a popular evening activity with the boys, as competition always brings out the best in them.
Futsal, which is new to Echo Lake this summer, takes place in our brand new field house, and has proven to be a very popular addition to the camp program.
The key theme going into the week has been “respect.” We have created an environment at Echo Lake that not only accepts everyone for who they are, but goes a step further to celebrate the individuality of everyone in the community.
This past week, we hit a few minor bumps in the road with the boys as we witnessed some behavior, language and attitude issues that do not align with our group goals or the values of Echo Lake. As a result, we placed our focus this week on the importance of respect and acceptance. I’m proud to say that the boys are really starting to embrace Senior Village life now, as they look to become role models for the rest of camp.
For trip day this week, the boys headed to Veterans Beach in the beautiful town of Bolton Landing. The weather was perfect, and the boys had an amazing day playing lawn games (such as Kanjam and Ladder Ball), soccer and basketball. They also enjoyed swimming in the lake, but the highlight of the trip for everyone was a visit to Stewart’s gas station for some of the best ice cream around!
The day was a huge success, and the boys behaved excellently throughout the trip, once again representing Echo Lake in the best way possible. Coming up tomorrow – Great Escape!
A mixture of Upper and Lower Village Boys headed to Walden for a 9u soccer game last Wednesday, winning the game 3-1.
Fifteen Lower Village Boys chose to miss trip day to compete in an 8u soccer tournament, but despite some solid performances, the boys failed to win either of their games, ending with a loss and a tie.
In an inter-camp tennis tournament hosted by Echo Lake (with visiting camps Racket Lake and Baco), we had an all-Echo Lake boys final after some fantastic tennis matches.
With Lazy & Crazy Special Day, “Bond-Fire,” Great Escape, Lower Village Sign Out, Visiting Day and hosting Halloween to look forward to in the next few days, the Senior Village Boys are living the camp dream right now. Next week, the Upper Village Boys head to Cape Cod and the Lower Village Boys get to host Project Morry. Camp truly is AWESOME!!
