Echo Lake's Traditions & Special Events

Another important piece of Echo Lake’s program are the traditions and special events that go on all summer long and make camp even more fun.

Our camp’s improvement on the typical color war or Olympics events is called Tribal. Tribal “breaks” during the first week or two of camp and campers are divided into two teams, Mohawk (gold) or Iroquois (green). Once a week we hold a Tribal event (i.e. Tug of War, Group Games, Swim, Track and Field, Apache Relay, Tribal Sing, and more) that is filled with extreme spirit and lead by our LITs. Campers learn how to show team spirit and compete, but also how to put the competition aside from one week to the next.

In addition to Tribal some of our many special events include Carnival, 4th of July Fireworks & Ho-down, Alawatchkeema, Echomania, World Cup Soccer, Halloween in July, Campfires (including S'mores!), and many special group theme days and events. These special events and traditions always uphold our camp values and beliefs in addition to adding a little extra magic to the summer experience.

Each year, the two tribes of Camp Echo Lake create a plaque based on a chosen theme. This gallery contains all of the tribal plaques that were created by our campers since 1958. See if you can guess the year's theme for each one.
